I’ve always wanted to go to vegas. I just didn’t know how to get there, and that was a big hurdle.
The first place I looked, was in a travel guide. The only problem was that the only thing I knew about vegas was that they had a decent (and expensive) hotel. I went from there and found a flight to ontario, which I had seen on a flight itinerary that was out of my budget. I went to the airport, and got my tickets. I found the flight. I got on the plane. I waited to see what was happening.
That’s when the flight was delayed. I was in my seat, and the plane started to spin. I had no idea where to go. I was a passenger, and as such, I didn’t have the authority to take any action. I just sat there, and waited for a long time. I don’t know why I didn’t do anything. I was waiting for some stranger to save me. I didn’t think much of it.
That moment in the plane was when you start to realize youre really on a plane, that you are being flown by some kind of AI, that its not you. You feel like an alien, a very small alien. What you cant tell is that youre being watched.
Flight attendants are required to be at least 18 to fly commercial passenger planes, and many of those are elderly women with the right to carry passengers without having to get off the plane. But this isnt just any old flight attendant, it’s a flight attendant who has an AI in charge that looks like her. She’s seen the same AI on many other flights, and it was the first time she had seen a human being. And we just sat there, waiting for the AI to say something.
This is a big deal because, unlike the AI in most flight attendants, the “AI” is the pilot. In the case of flights to vegas, the AI was being monitored by a human flight attendant at a checkpoint. The AI was also making comments about the plane and the flight attendant, and the human was checking in on the AI. Even though its not clear what the AI is actually saying, it sure sounded more human than usual.
